Corte Pila biomethane plant commissioned and injecting into the Italian gas grid
We are delighted to announce the commissioning of our Corte Pila biomethane plant and new gas grid injection point in Mantua Province, in the Lombardy region of Italy.
Following conversion of the plant to produce biomethane, using Cycle0 Group’s proprietary Biogasclean branded technology, the plant will now use 47,000 tonnes per annum of agriculture feedstock to produce renewable natural gas for Italian industrial customers. Operational since 2012, the plant was previously a gas-to-electricity plant with an installed electrical capacity of 1 MW.
The plant will produce an average of 44 GWh of biomethane per annum for direct injection through the new grid connection, which was also constructed as part of Cycle0’s phase 1, €100 million investment plan for Italy.
The Corte Pila plant is owned and will be operated by Cycle0. Previous owner Franco Angeli will remain involved and take a seat on the management board. The entire operational team has also been retained to support the plant’s safe and effective ongoing operation.
The commissioning of Corte Pila follows our announcement in 2025 of the construction of our first greenfield plant in Italy, following a successful participation in the 5th GSE auction. The plant, Green Park 5, is currently under construction in Pontinia in the Lazio region and is due for completion 2026. Combined with Corte Pila, the two plants will produce up to a total of 90 GWh, or 8 million standard cubic metres (SCM) of gas – enough to meet the average gas needs of around 6,000 Italian homes.
This commissioning expands Cycle0’s European portfolio of planned and operational plants to 8. The portfolio also includes seven operational agri-centric greenfield and industrial waste-to-energy brownfield plants across Spain.
